Not-Quite-Irish Blessings for Teachers II

This morning, after my dad and I made our annual phone call to say “Top of the mornin’ to ye,” and other silly things in our best Irish accents, I sat down to pen this set of not-quite-Irish blessings. Check out the first set of blessing for teachers that I wrote last year!

1.

May your emails be less

And your support, be more

And may only calm children

Walk through your door

2.

There once was a teacher of songs

Her students sang and played all day long

By the end of the day

Well, what could she say?

It was silence for which she most longed

3.

May your students always listen, may your directions find their ears

And when their minds are filled with doubt, may you brush away their fears

May the students who push back or merely sit and stare

Know you’re in their corner and that you truly care

May the students who are quiet and those who feel passed over

Realize their quiet ways may be their super power

Every teacher that I know does more than teaching lessons

So may each child in your care realize its blessings

4.

May learning and laughter fill your days

May coffee fill your cup

May the many teacher friends you’ve made

Always lift you up

May you always find the things you need

To do a job well done

May your admin stand behind you

And support you from day one

May the halls of your school be a place

That you would like to be

May the weekends and the breaks you’ve earned

Give the rest you need

As summer soon approaches

And the year comes to an end

May every child within your class

Know they’ve found a friend

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

  1. I loved these; I could almost put myself in a pub, and someone sing-talking (?) along to a fiddle? You really have, from what little I know about Irish blessings, fit the mark. I wish all the same for you!

  2. These are so wonderful! You capture the cadence and comfort of the originals, and create gifts for your fellow teachers. And I love your intro with your silly rituals with your dad on St. Patrick’s Day.
